The reason that drinking water helps you to drop pounds is because it is very difficult for your body to break up and get rid of fat cells when you are dehydrated. 

You should be having a glass of water with every meal. Drinking sips of water in between chewing and eating your food will help you slow down food intake and also aid your body with digestion. Drinking water during meals will also make you feel more full so you do not consume as many calories. 

When driving around and running errands you should always make sure that you have plenty of water with you. If you don't carry around water with you the chances of you remembering to drink lots of it are not good. Also, at work you should keep a bottle of water at your desk. This way you will drink on it all day. A lot of times people will mistake thirst for hunger and this will help with that again making you consume less calories.
